Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde team up to star in a new superhero movie with the latter set to direct a film adaptation of Avengelyne, a comic book character by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld that debuted in 1995, Deadline reported Thursday.
The film will be produced under the Barbie star and her husband Tom Ackerly LuckyChap Entertainment banner as well as Simon Kinberg, known for the Deadpool and X-Men films, and Audrey Chon of Genre Films. The company also produced Greta Gerwig’s eight-time Oscar-nominated film Barbie, which saw Robbie play the beloved Mattel doll.
On her part, Olivia Wilde previously directed the 2019 coming-of-age flick Booksmart, which received critical acclaim, and 2022’s drama-plagued thriller Don’t Worry Darling starring her hunky ex-boyfriend Harry Styles. Per Deadline, Avengelyne is not being developed with Robbie in mind to play the comic book heroine — despite previously portraying Harley Quinn in DC superhero films.
Deadline dished that a ‘big A-list writer’ is keen on adapting the screenplay. Variety reports that the project has yet to be picked up by a studio or streamer but that it will be pitched to bigwigs in the coming weeks. Avengelyne is a comic book centred on a fallen angel who fights demons and monsters on Earth.
She was considered the ‘most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost’ before being banished from Heaven by God after questioning his love for humanity, as per Deadline. Liefeld created the character and story in collaboration with Cathy Christian and Tony Lobito. Liefeld previously spoke about Avengelyne’
‘relatable’ redemption arc and how it has ‘resonated so powerfully’ with comic book readers. ‘A fallen angel, sentenced to redeem herself by serving humanity, Earth is a foreign environment to her, she must adapt to save herself as well as mankind. Her dilemma provides humour amidst the larger plot engine driving her journey,’ he explained.

The illustration illustrations show her as a busty, auburn-haired vixen dressed in a racy black vinyl costume with a coordinating choker necklace with a large cross pendant. She uses a ‘holy sword’ from the Crusades to fight off and destroy her enemies.
Avengelyne will mark Wilde’s second time working with Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment, which Margot Robbie launched with Ackerley in 2014. The production company is currently producing the House star’s latest film Naughty, a Christmas film for Universal Pictures.
