Nigerian singer Shallipopi who enjoyed rising to fame in 2023 has finally revealed how he got his unique stage name. The star whose real name is Crown Uzama, is popular for his songs such as Obapluto, Things on Things, Plutomania, Elon Musk etc
The singer and rapper was recently featured on the Cocktails and Takeaways podcast. There, he revealed the interesting story behind his stage name. According to him, he experimented with various options including his name before settling on the current name.

Per Shallipopi “I was looking for name. I needed a name and I checked this one and checked that one, it didn’t work. I even tried my own name. But if I tell people my government name, they won’t feel it like that, he began.”
Then continued,” My name is Crown, so I needed another name. I used to go by Drip Face, and I used to change my names anyhow, so I had many names.” Apart from the stage name, the “Things on Things” crooner further shared how he got his real name Crown.
“When we were little, we had this DVD that our parents bought for us. Back then, there were some cassettes that when you bought it, you wouldn’t see the movie on the case. You’d see a different movie inside. There was one that my mother bought, it was a cartoon, but when we played it, it was a different movie called Shaolin Popey. It was an old Korean or Karate, Kung Fu movie.”

Shaolin Popey is a 1994 movie inspired by a young boy Crown. Shallipopi stated, “At the time I was looking for names, so I searched the movie on Google, and it saved me. So I decided to take the first S.H.A and the L.I and POPI. That’s the real story.”
The singer rose to mainstream fame in 2023 following the release of his single “Elon Musk”, which peaked at number one on the Nigeria Top 100 Apple Music. He followed up with his debut studio album Presido La Pluto (2023), which peaked at number one on the TurnTable Top 50 Albums[and also peaked at number five on the Apple Music Top 100 albums.
